Eighty-five percent of the rakyat will not be affected by an increase in electricity tariff. This assurance was given by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament today.
In replying to a question by Machang MP, the PM said those affected in the increase, expected to be implemented in July, were the industries and T15 percent higher income bracket of Malaysians.
He had on Monday told the Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia the increase in electricity tariff is inevitable. Any increase will be based on the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through and not 14 percent which was reported by the media earlier.
